The goodtime hotel Miami Beach Review: A Day Use Stay in South Beach
With my cruise disembarking from Miami Port early in the morning, and my return flight home with British Airways not until late evening, I was looking for something to do during the day. You can find my whole itinerary here.
Having been to Miami a few times before, there was nothing in particular that I really wanted to do, but I did need a base for the day and was drawn to local Day Use options. I’d previously visited South Beach some years ago - in fact, we stayed at The Tides right on the front, which closed in 2018 after Hurricane Irma - and noticing the goodtime hotel just a few blocks away, it felt like a natural choice for the day.
I have to say this would not be my normal choice of hotel, but options were limited for day use and the timings here were perfect, being able to secure a reasonably priced room for 10am to 6pm, with very flexible cancellation terms.
If this does catch your eye for a South Beach stay, read on to find out more and being part of Marriott, booking with me would mean that you could benefit from LUMINOUS perks, as below.

The accommodation reflects the hotel’s design-led approach, though space can be limited depending on the room category.
Room and Suite Types
I didn’t need a big room (and nor did I get one) so I booked the entry level Queen room, but there are also two queen options, as well as king, one bedroom king suite, and the top level arigato suite (one bedroom king, ocean view).

Facilities & Service at the goodtime hotel, Miami Beach
A look at the hotel’s facilities and service, based on my short stay and overall impressions
While I didn’t make full use of every facility during my visit, I was able to get a clear sense of how the hotel operates and the type of experience it offers.
A closer look at the hotel’s facilities and services, with a few personal notes along the way.
My Queen Room 371
Initially, on entering the room, my first impressions were that it was a cross between a student dorm and something from the Barbie film. That said, it was only because of the size (it was compact, and quite basic) and there was so much pink!
That said, the room grew on me as it was decent sized for one person, and what I needed, but it would have been too small for us as a couple with the bed being accessible on one side only.
Levels of Comfort
The room was perfectly clean and probably felt newer than its opening in 2021, and with very high ceilings and an expansive wall of glass, it was actually a very comfortable room, despite its size. The outlook was towards the adjacent Art Deco style car park, but very quiet and there was no noise whatsoever to dispute the central location, and (further along the corridor) at the pool level / Strawberry Moon.
Bathroom / Shower Room
Small but perfectly serviceable, and clean, but again quite Barbie-like with the pink and the antique style fittings. I’m not a fan of a shower curtain, but I did brave the shower regardless and it was a very decent powerful shower, once I got the temperature adjusted to be high enough. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were goodtime branded and decent, as were the separate hand wash and body/hand lotion too.
Pro Tip: Choosing Your Room
If you’re booking at the goodtime hotel, it’s worth paying close attention to the room category. The entry-level queen rooms are compact, with the bed positioned against one wall, making them better suited to solo travellers or shorter stays.
If space is important, I’d recommend considering a higher room category for a more comfortable layout and overall experience.

Restaurant & Bar at the goodtime hotel
A lively, design-led dining and social scene centred around the pool
Strawberry Moon is positioned as the hotel’s main dining and social hub — a high-energy restaurant, bar and day-to-night pool club set above the streets of South Beach. It’s very much at the heart of the hotel’s atmosphere, with a focus on music, socialising and a vibrant poolside scene.
As I was only visiting for the day, I didn’t have the opportunity to try breakfast or dine here, nor sample any of the poolside food and drinks. There also appeared to be a smaller café-style space, likely geared more towards morning coffee and lighter takeaway options.
The Library
The Library is a more relaxed lounge-style space, with a distinctly playful, almost “Barbie-like” design aesthetic. It sits just off the main public areas of the hotel and, from what I could see, is accessible to non-residents, with guest-only areas located beyond keycard access points.
Fitness, Spa & Wellness
A look at the hotel’s facilities, even if only briefly explored
I didn’t make full use of the fitness or wellness facilities during this stay, but did take a look at what’s available. There is an outdoor gym area - by MyBeast - which feels very much in keeping with Miami’s open-air fitness culture, not unlike the well-known beach gyms nearby. It’s as much about the atmosphere as it is the workout itself.
There is also an indoor gym, although I didn’t have the chance to visit this during my stay.
The pool is a generous size, but the overall feel - particularly on a Saturday - is more social than serene. With the afternoon pool party and a younger crowd, it leans more towards a place to see and be seen, rather than somewhere for a quiet swim.
Design, Architecture & Heritage
A closer look at South Beach’s iconic Art Deco style and the character it brings to the area
South Beach is best known for its distinctive Art Deco architecture, with pastel-coloured buildings, curved lines and geometric detailing lining Ocean Drive and the surrounding streets. Much of this dates back to the 1920s and 1930s, forming one of the largest collections of preserved Art Deco buildings in the world.
On previous visits, parts of the area had begun to feel a little tired, but it now feels as though there is a renewed focus on restoration and regeneration. Many of these historic properties are being carefully refurbished, balancing their original character with more modern updates. The result is an area that feels both nostalgic and evolving - where classic Miami Beach heritage sits alongside contemporary hotels, restaurants and a fresh sense of energy.
What about the South Beach Miami location?
A well-positioned base within easy reach of the beach and Miami’s most iconic streets
While there are quite a few smaller Art Deco building hotels right on the ocean front, the goodtime was in a great location for South Beach too just being a block or two behind. Previously we had stayed before at The Tides, and I was able to walk there in just a few minutes. I started my walk along the front at 6th Street, and walked away all along the ocean up to 24th Street, working my way back along the inside roads. I hadn’t actually appreciated that the ocean walk and the Art Deco district really just goes up as far as 14th Place / Ocean Drive (where the Betsy Hotel is) and from there up to Mid Beach and Miami Beach it becomes more of a boardwalk walk - Lummus Park Beach Walk.
You sort of transition to the wider expanse of ocean meets beach, meets recreation space moving into the Art Deco buildings (many now hotels, bars and restaurants) and then at the change to the Lummus Beach Walk the hotels get larger and back onto the walkway, are much closer to the ocean - like Loews, the Ritz Carlton, The Shelburne, The Setai Ocean Suites, W South Beach and 1 Hotel South Beach. The iconic Delano, in that same area, is due to reopen in 2026 after a multi-year refurbishment programme.
Highlights of my stay
There were several aspects of the stay that stood out, but a few in particular are worth noting:
A well-located base with easy access to South Beach
Lively on-site pool and dining scene, ideal if you’re looking for a younger, more energetic Miami atmosphere
Exceptionally clean room throughout, which always makes a difference
Very comfortable bed, albeit very compact for two
Areas for improvement
Whilst I tend to focus on the positives, there are a couple of points worth noting.
The queen room is on the smaller side and, in my view, best suited to solo travellers. The only other minor point - purely a personal preference - was the use of a shower curtain rather than a glass enclosure.
Is The goodtime Hotel Miami Worth It?
For a day, absolutely yes or I would recommend a higher category of room for a longer stay. Not sure when I will be back there, albeit I have booked the Fontainebleau Miami Beach for my next visit, only because I’ve been interested in it since the days of The Bodyguard! Next visit to South Beach I would likely be wanting to try out The Delano, or if The Tides ever reopens as a hotel, I would love to go back there too.
My final thoughts on the goodtime hotel and the South Beach area
I enjoyed our last stay in the South Beach area, albeit that was a very long time ago now, and on subsequent visits we’ve chosen to stay elsewhere - including Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and most recently the Bayside area (InterContinental Miami) for a more laid-back base.
South Beach still has its appeal, particularly for a shorter stay or a day visit, and the Goodtime Hotel works well in that context - offering something fun, design-led and well-located without needing to commit to a longer stay in the area.
I was given a complimentary wristband for the weekend pool party at the Goodtime (which I have to admit I didn’t use), and it certainly reinforced the area’s party-driven atmosphere. That said, it was also encouraging to see many of the original Art Deco buildings being carefully refurbished, giving the area a sense of renewal.
I was also surprised to see that the former Versace Villa - now Gianni's at the Villa - has been transformed into a restaurant, adding another layer to South Beach’s evolving character.
On leaving, I saw that the airline crew of ITA Airways were checking in, which I guess is also a sign that a hotel is decent - unless they were just there for the party vibe!
