Oslo Hotel Favourites & Future Stays

Having just left as I write this Destination Edit, I can honestly say that I would recommend all the hotels that I stayed at really highly - Amerikalinjen, Sommerro, and The Thief. I will need to deliberate more as I write up the detailed hotel reviews as to whether I ended up having a favourite, but at this stage I am really unclear. Amerikalinjen opened in March 2019, housed in the former headquarters of the Norwegian America Line, originally built in 1919, it was carefully restored and reopened as a luxury boutique hotel exactly 100 years later.

Sommerro opened in September 2022, A grand transformation of the historic Oslo Lysverker building (Oslo's original electrical company HQ from the 1930s), reimagined as a bold Art Deco–inspired hotel with restaurants, a rooftop pool, and wellness spaces.

The Thief opened in January 2013, built from the ground up as a contemporary luxury hotel in Oslo’s Tjuvholmen arts district, next to the Astrup Fearnley Museum. Known for its striking design, curated art, and waterfront location.

If you want history, opt for Amerikalinjen or Sommerro, if you’re an art deco fan then Sommerro for sure, but if you like something more modern and a more traditional concept of a spa/wellness area, opt for The Thief.
