Indulgent Escapes: Luxuriate in Sri Lanka's Anantara Peace Haven Resort and Amangalla in Galle

We were looking for somewhere to go for a 10-day break in December, so homed in on Sri Lanka, especially when realising that we could get great connecting flights from the UK with Qatar Airways. There were so many interesting places to choose, but we really wanted just a relaxing villa break so opted for a week at the incredible Anantara Peace Haven Lodge near Tangalle (pool villas) followed by a few days in Galle - the only place to stay here was Amangalla. Housed in a 17th-century building, which for more than 100 years served as the New Oriental Hotel during the heyday of steamship travel, Amangalla is part of the fabric of Galle and its Unesco-protected fort.
